(Didn’t find any photos for this period). July 1980 - To Caribbean Islands Air Charter Inc., Miami, FL. Apart from that the paint scheme appears identical to the one used by Evergreen. The nose has been painted black, although it doesn’t quite join the black of the anti-glare paint. One photo from this period gives more clues to changes that I’ve applied to this paint too it’s just possible to see an emergency exit is outlined in black (on other photos they’re always hidden by the wings). I’ve only found starboard side photos from this time, they show the ‘Evergreen’ lettering has been applied and the registration appears to have been repainted too, there is also significant wear to the paintwork on the nose (even though it appears to have been repainted in green at this point).įebruary 1979 - To Basler Flight Services, Oshkosh, WI. Part of the cargo door is outlined in black, but a colour photo from 1977 also shows the forward access door outlined, and the Johnson paint schemes appears to have been blue (but an identical pattern they do seem to have used similar patterns in different colours on C-47s). A black and white photo from 1968 shows the aircraft in the paint scheme depicted in this livery but with a logo on the tail, ‘Johnson’ above the windows, and the registration lettering appears to be slightly different. Subsequently re-designated as an R4D-5 and taken on charge with the US Marine Corps with BuNo 17199, but ultimately re-designated as a C-47H.įebruary 1966 - transferred to Johnson Flying Services, Missoula, MT, and registered as N91379. I made this paint following a request on the forum, here’s a brief history of the aircraft:Ĭonstructed as a C-47A-20-DK by Douglas at Oklahoma in 1942, receiving the USAAF s/n 42-93194. Since then the company has changed ownership a number of times, and after one such change at the end of the 80s they ceased seaplane operations altogether. ![]() (CFB) was formed in 1984, initially operating seaplanes to Catalina Island, including contract work with Fed-Ex and US mail. ![]() As a cargo aircraft there are fewer windows on the actual aircraft than on the VSL model, but I still figured it was worth creating this paint.Ĭatalina Flying Boats Inc. At this time the aircraft still had de-icing boots on all surfaces apart from the vertical stabiliser. I’ve reproduced this appearance, mainly because it avoids some issues created by the texture mapping of the cowl flaps, whist still being accurate, and it also suites the overall worn and weathered look of the aircraft around 2000. Photos around 1995/2001 suggest some work had been done on the engines, and the front section of the cowling and cowl flaps were missing the blue stripe. I’m not sure exactly when this livery was adopted, but I’ve seen photos as early as 1990, (where there was some small writing inside the white circles), through to around 2005, but by 2008 N403JB had been repainted in a new scheme. clearly based this livery on the old Air France scheme, although it does vary in quite a few details of size, shape and location of markings.
